About Laurel
Exploring the Emotive Power of Wildlife Art
During her pursuit of a master’s degree in Arts Practice at Suffolk, England, Laurel introduced the concept of "active paint." This term encapsulates the sensation of vitality and energy present in her artwork, even when depicting inanimate subjects. Through techniques like scrapes, drags, layering, drips, and thick blobs, Laurel emphasizes the physicality of her painting process, creating pieces that invite viewers into her artistic journey.
Building Connection Through Art
Laurel's work revolves around the principle of active paint, harnessing the emotive force of nature to captivate audiences. "I want my viewers to find personal connections in my paintings," she explains. "Whether it’s a tone, texture, or color that evokes a memory, or an animal that resonates with their own experiences, my art aims to spark emotion."
Each brushstroke reflects Laurel's interaction with the canvas—scrapes, wobbly lines, and small imperfections create a relatable connection between her and the viewer. "These human touches make my paintings more than just representations of animals; they are extensions of myself as a creator and a sentient being."
My Journey in Art
Laurel studied painting in Suffolk from 2011 to 2015, graduating with a master’s degree in Arts Practice. After several years as a Curator and Project Manager in Creative Marketing, she rekindled her passion for painting and began selling her original wildlife art internationally in 2019. Today, her works are cherished by collectors in the USA, Canada, Australia, London, Dubai, and throughout Europe.
